I remember my Dad once telling me how you know you aren’t an apprentice anymore. Back when he was an apprentice, his own boss had told him that when you stop asking the questions and you start getting asked the questions – you know.
I’ve been a Landlord now for so long, that I have started to get asked questions. I guess the apprenticeship is over.
I work full time in property. First as a Landlord, I also own more than one property related business and I spend most of my waking hours with Landlords, Tenants, Lettings agents, mortgage brokers, accountants, solicitors and various other ‘property bods’. They are all good eggs and it’s no hardship at all to spend time with any of them.
I’m married with 4 kids, live in a ‘lively’ house that I don’t think I ever want to move from. Have great friends and neighbours and I get plenty of time to spend with my family and we try go away once a month if we can. I’m lucky that I’ve been able to mould my life to include everything I enjoy doing and it’s a lot of fun.
What is the motivation for this blog then?
Well, I have a rough idea, but honestly, it’s not fully clear! I’m deciding to get going and build this ship at sea, like all the best projects ????
The fact is that whilst my family and my job are my focus, it is because I am a Landlord that I get the time, freedom [and the cash] to make life fun. I really want more people to have a great experience of being a Landlord and I passionately believe that they can, it’s kind of my mission.
Too many Landlords I meet aren’t happy and I think they could be if only they were a bit more ‘informed’, it’s often the tiny bits of detail that are so crucial. I think that Blogging about my experiences as a Landlord and posting it all in one place could create quite a useful repository.
Like I say, know a fair few ‘prop bods’, and I hope to co-opt as many of them into contributing to this blog as I can, so it won’t just be my experiences. Perhaps you could get in touch and it could be your experiences I’m recording?
The plan is to mix written articles with videos. To do interviews, ‘case studies’, some loose ‘advice’, let’s just call it my 2p’s worth and I’m sure there will be the odd ‘rant’ too.
Hopefully I’ll get to meet some of you too.
Jesse.
